Approved East Coast Aero Club Student Pilot Cross Country Routes

When planning and flying solo cross country flights, student pilots must use the approved following routes. 

If circumstances preclude the use of these routes (TFR, etc.) the instructor must obtain approval for another route not on this list.

Student pilots may not fly to airports with heavy traffic such as Bradley, Manchester, Providence or other airports that have heavy traffic.

Dual Cross Country Routes (Day & Night)

  • KBED – KSFM- KBED  Total Distance: 122NM
    KSFM: runway 32-14 = 4999’ x 100’  /  runway 25 – 07  = 6389’ x 100’
  • KBED – KGON – KBED  Total Distance: 152NM
    KGON: runway 23 – 5 = 5000’ x 150’ / runway 33 – 15 4000’ X 96’
  • KBED – KSFZ – KEWB – KBED Total Distance: 112NM
    KSFZ runway 5 – 23 = 5000’ x 100’  runway 33 – 15  = 3211’ X 75’
    KEWB runway 23 – 5 = 5400’ X 150’  /  runway  32 – 14 5002’ X 75’

Night Dual Cross-Country Flights.

§ 61.109 Aeronautical experience.

3 hours of cross-country flight training in a single engine airplane.

(2) Except as provided in § 61.110 of this part, 3 hours of night flight training in a  single-engine airplane that includes –

ECAC Student pilots are prohibited flying solo at night.

(i) One cross-country flight of over 100 nautical miles total distance; and

(ii) 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport.
